Zhengzhou Water Supply Corporation (ZZwater) is a class-B; national, state-owned water supply enterprise located at 67 Mid-Zhongyuan Road Zhengzhou (the capital of Henan province) and was established in 1953. ZZ Water owns 1,900,000,000 RMB with a net asset of 1,300,000,000 RMB and has a registered capital of 236,000,000 RMB.
Its business scope is not only the production and sales of drinking water, but also the design and construction of the water supply systems.
ZZWater adopts a water supply mode which combines both surface water - and ground water source and possesses 3 surface water plants whose sources are from the Yellow River and 3 plants whose sources are ground water.
Up to the end of 2005, the capacity of water supply was 1.070.000 m3/d, the total length of pipe network was 1,517,470 m³, the total length of the urban trunkpipe network (DN≥300mm) was 699.53 km and it covered an area of 262km².
In 2005, the total amount of water supply was 215,075,400m³, the water sales amounted to 166,206,500m³, which ranked it No. 21, by water supply amount, amongst such enterprises in capital cities in China.
ZZWater has over 3580 registered employees, among them are 564 persons who have a Bachelor’s degree or higher, 46 senior engineers, 567 medium engineers and 293 junior engineers.
Besides its departments, ZZ Water has 12 subordinate units such as the Water Plant, the Sales Department, the Pipe Networks Department, the Customer's Application Engineering Department, the Property Management Company, the Engineering Company, the Industrial Company, the General Repair Company and so on. It also has the Raw Water Plant and the Water Treatment Plant which co-operates with Sino French Water Development Co., Ltd.
In order to catch up with the process of reform, opening-up and modernization in Zhengzhou, since 1992 ZZWater has invested billions of RMB in large-scale technical renovation and process development: by adopting the PAC dosing system in each water-plant it has also activated systems of automation of chlorination, auto-monitoring in water quality, pipe networks pressure and so on.
Therefore, the capacity of water treatment was enhanced and so was the safety of the water quality and the pipe networks ran smoothly. As well, ZZ Water has established a computer networked control system to: manage production schedules, water quality testing, sales and accounts. Other vital actions that have been implemented are the quick-response mechanism for urgent repairs of pipe networks, the purchase of advanced leak detectors, and a shortened urgent repair time. Improved quality is ensured by the now established 24-hour emergency response service center that connects the service hot line to the pipe networks.
Presently, ZZWater has adopted a policy operational mode of ‘rely mainly on water and develop synthetically’ for the next 50 years of rapid development.
With the development of China’s socialist market economy, ZZWater adopts the strategy of adapting to not only to the market economy, but also to the development of urban water supply enterprises and advances enterprise reform and achieves innovation in management.
ZZWater increases technological investment, promotes water treatment process and updates the urban pipe system, develops the scale of water supply reasonably and enlarges the area of water supply appropriately.
