The Shifo Water Plant (Zhengzhou Jiuwu Tan Underground Water Supply Project) is funded by Japanese yen invested by Zhengzhou City, and international bidding was used for the purchase of its equipment. As one of the most important water supply projects of the city, it uses the new side-dialyzing method to collect the water of the Yellow River. The production scale of the project is ten thousands tons per day meeting the water needs for the production and livelihood of the north Mianfang Road, the west of Songshan Road and the Hi-Tech Development Zone. The first term of the project began in August 1994 with a total investment of 0.2 billion RMB and it was completed by the end of 1995. At that time, the production scale was 70 thousand tons per day. The plant is connected with Jiuwu Tan Water Resource Well Cluster, the water pipe runs from Jiuwu Tan to Shifo and the Shifo Water Distribution Plant.
Jiuwu Tan Water Resource is located at the Yellow River Levee, a northern suburb of Zhengzhou City. The first term project was completed with 32 tube wells (14 more to be completed in the second term), with two administrative stations and 18 kilometers of well-patrolled roads. There is one main pipe from Jiuwu Tan Water Resource to the water distribution plant, with a diameter of 1.2 meters and a total length of 11.294 kilometers.
Shifo water distribution plant is located in the town of Shifo of Zhengzhou city, in the northeast side of the Hi-Tech Development Zone, with a total area of more than 60 mu. The major facilities are as follows: filter pond, chlorine adding room, rinsing pond, water-supply pump room, high voltage electricity distribution center, automatic control system and instrument room. The water production procedures are as follows: take water from water sources, deliver water through pipes to the Shifo water distribution plant, in the plant, expose the water in the exposing pond, filter the water through a double valve, transfer the water to the rinsing pond after it has been through the chlorine adding process, repeat the chlorine adding process a second time, and finally deliver the water from the high pressure pump house through to the municipal pipe network.
The water resource of the Shifo Water Plant does side-dialyzing of water of the Yellow River. Typically, the water is clear and safe from pollution, and the quality of the water is stable with low mud content, and the water is abundant and it is not affected by the seasons. All indices of the output-processed water from the water distribution center have met the requirements of the national standards for drinking water. The turbidity of the final water is around 0.2 NTU in an annually stable manner. This plant will surely exert a profound function in relieving the tension in the water supply of Zhengzhou City and ensure that the citizens of Zhengzhou City can drink high-quality tap water.
